Coffee Talk : Build Your Coffee Story!

Posted by + Suresh + on Tuesday, February 25, 2014

How about a Hot Cup of Coffee? An Extra Shot or Just The Usual?

For some of us, there's nothing like a good cup of Coffee in the Morning to kick start our day.At the present time, with the sudden influx of Coffee Places opening just about everywhere, your definitely spoiled for choice when it comes to Coffee & Cakes.

So what separates one outlet from another and "what is their brand story"

I've always found the purpose of a Coffee place intriguing from their Concept to their Architecture and definitely their choices of Coffee Beans used too. So Whats Your Brand Story?

Think of Brand as a story you are telling about your unique elements, your unique purpose, and your unique products and services. Think of this as less fact based and more anecdotal or story like. So as an Advertising Student & Coffee lover myself, I decided to observe a few patterns that pull customers to these wonderful coffee places. One thing is for sure, its not just the Coffee but the Service & Ambiance that is a pulling factor too.

Some start-up café owners look for a location first. And some café owners create their unique brand based on a passion for a product and service. Ideally, this will create your brand first – as that passion will give your café longevity and that constant locational differences and customer preferences do exist. The Up North residence may have different preferences from the East and the Southern Region. It is a mistake to design a café to your own preferences and tastes and not consider the majority of the consumers in your regional area

I would think the main sustainability that separates one coffee place from their competitors would be the community relationships, and overall “purpose” of a café from another. This can be seen in big Coffee places like Artisan Roast & Coffee Stain by Joseph who have a huge customers based. The reason being evident in the products they carry, their customer service and operations, and overall dining experience.

There's always a story behind every place and what separates one outlet from another is their sheer ambition to create something new and engaging. So when i see a small outlet with huge number of people patronizing, I'm quite sure and confidentally say, this coffee place has something unique about them that other coffee places don't.

"If you're not trying to do something better, then you're not focused on the customer and you'll miss the possibility of making your business great. "

When it comes to food, there are heaps of restaurants to chose from to satisfy your cravings. With the variety of cuisines and the many popular spots these days, it so hard to handpicked which is your next dining place. But if you are someone who loves eating at a steamboat restaurant, this post will do you a whole lot of goodness.

As the tittle goes Pak John Steamboat & Yong Tao Foo is the latest steamboat restaurant to open in the Klang Valley. Nestled right at the heart of Mutiara Damansara at E-Curve, this restaurant promises a wonderful dining experience with a wide array of dishes & desserts that would certainly tickle your taste buds. Thanks to the lovely people at Living Social, I had the opportunity to dine at this outlet together with blogger friends and together with my two lovely partners in crime Sandra & Jq

With ample seating areas and a cozy environment complimented by the color of Red & Black of the interior architecture, you can be assured you could dine in comfort.

The outlet is spacious and is ventilated really well, so you wouldn't have to worry about going home with your hair smelling of smoke too

Assorted choices of fishball, crabstick, beef ball, fish noodle, chicken, beef, squid, prawns,
sausages, quail eggs and the list goes on!! But the highlight for me was definitely the Smoke
Duck meat.

Sandra & Me decided to play Chef for a day and here's is our steamboat pot with
assorted veggies, fisballs and smoke duck right in the middle.

The marinated chicken along with sausages tasted really good and it was well marinated as well.

Pak John Steamboat & Yong Tao Foo is a Halal restaurant that provides quality raw dishes
at an affordable price. At the current time a charge of RM26 per head is the applicable fee for a
dine session here. Totally worth it with its wide range of dishes & especially being located in
a hugely popular shopping area.

Nasi Lemak & Other local dishes are also available in this hot pot as shown above

After all that snapping and eating, we still took time off to pose for photos :D

Group shot with the Bloggers, The lovely people from LivingSocial all thanks our photographer Jq

After all that eating, it was time for dessert & Oh My the wide variety of desserts certainly didn't disappoint!

Despite the huge patronage at the outlet, the place still remained clean! A for Cleanliness

Oh The Chocolate Waffle was wonderful too!

It was so good, we even had a ummm a small fight between Sandra & Jq. The Girls certainly enjoyed their Chocolate Waffle.

Make your Own Mojito at Home in a Few Simple Steps

Posted by + Suresh + on Thursday, January 9, 2014

Happy New Year! It's My First Post of 2014 & May it be a Prosperous & Fruitful 2014 for Everyone! Keep Inspiring & Be Inspired!

I've always loved how refreshing Mojito's are and Find the many Styles of Mixing and Blend very Ummm Let's say Interesting!

Traditionally, a mojito is a cocktail that consists of five main ingredients: white rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice or granulated sugar), lime juice, sparkling water, and mint. But today, I'm going to give you a few pointers to create 3 personalised home made mojito cocktails.

Some of us like it sweet and some a lil bit bitter when preparing our favourite drinks. Mojito's are somewhat perfect for the gathering of friends & family or simply quenching your thirst on an extremely hot day by the pool.

This post was inspired by my short mid week getaway at Rooftop Infinity Edge Pool at Marina Bay Sands

Now every individual has their own personal preference when it comes to "how they want their cocktails to taste like". So Here Goes!

Arugula Honey Mojito

Also known as Salad Rocket, which is a fitting name for this zippy leafy green, Arugula is a delicious early summer vegetable & has no shortage of healing qualities, So if you are someone that is health conscious and of course a green leaf person this cocktail should bring you a wealth of goodness.
As the green leafy Arugula is not a popular choice in Malaysia as it is in other countries, you would have to drop by those huge hypermarkets like Jaya Grocers to get yours.

Ingredients

Honey
Hot water
1/2 cup arugula
1 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
2 oz. gin
Ice
Mint sprig, to garnish

Instructions

Start by making a honey simple syrup. The ratio is 3 parts honey to 1 part hot water. I measured 1/3 cup of honey into a small bowl then filled the 1/3 cup one third of the way full with hot tap water.

Pour the hot water over the honey, gently stirring to combine.

To a cocktail shaker, add 3/4 oz. honey simple syrup, arugula and lime juice. Using a wooden spoonmuddle, mash up the arugula several times. The arugula should look bruised, not pulverised.

Add the gin, cap and shake to mix the flavours.

Fill a short tumbler with ice. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer (like those tea leaf strainers) into the tumbler. Garnish with a mint sprig. Your Good To Go!

The End Product: Arugula Honey Mojito

Fresh & Punchy Mojito

This mojito is extremely refreshing and is made of the simplest of ingredients and is destined with a
irresistibly fresh and punchy feel, this authentic mojito cocktail recipe is a one-way salsa dance to the Caribbean without a doubt.

                                                                       Ingredients

1½ limes, cut into wedges
20 fresh mint leaves
2½ tsp granulated sugar
handful ice
65ml/2½fl oz white rum
splash soda water, to taste
fresh mint sprig, to garnish

Instructions

Place the limes, mint and sugar into a sturdy highball glass and mash with the end of a clean rolling pin, to bruise the mint and release the lime juice.

Add the ice and pour over the rum.

Add soda water to taste and stir well. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve. Simpleto!

The End Product: Fresh & Punchy Mojito

La Vodka Mojito

This home made mojito is an experiment in disguise with the use of vodka to replace the more notably used rums in mojitos. With Vodka being the base, the lime and mint leaves reduces the bitterness of the vodka while adding a fruity & minty taste to the mojito. This drink is ideally for the ladies who love a lil kick of alcohol to their mojitos.

Ingredients

2 big limes, cut into wedges
15 fresh mint leaves
2½ tsp granulated sugar
handful ice
a cup of vodka
ice cream soda , to taste
fresh mint sprig, to garnish

Instructions

Fill Up jug with ice cubes

Pour a cup of vodka inside

Pour a cup of ice cream soda inside

Squeeze 2 big limes into the jug

Soak mint leaves in water for awhile then pour the leaves with water into the jug

Stir Well & Serve!

The End Product: La Vodka Mojito

The festive season is just around the corner again, so go ahead and prepare some simple yet refreshing mojitos for yourself, your friends & family. I hope this 3 simple homemade custom mojito drinks would go well for you. Do experiment along to find that special taste thats Oh So Different!

A Day Of Artsy Affair

Posted by + Suresh + on Friday, December 20, 2013

I have always found Art in general something very captivating on the eyes. While some may see art as just a normal form of painting and illustration, i see art as a means that is expressed with emotions and reasoning.

Me, Myself & I have been painting and drawing since I was a little boy. My Teacher's in high school thought a little structure to my artwork would be a good thing, so i decided to add Art as an elective subject. Speaking of art, my eyes were opened to the wonderful world of murals in high school when some fellow students and I were selected to do a mural at The Petri Art Gallery.
